When and how to use this letter
Preserve evidence before you do anything else. Do not delete the offending messages, posts, or emails, and take screenshots that show the sender's profile, the date and time, and the full content. Back everything up to cloud storage, because phones get lost and accounts get deleted.
Secure your own accounts immediately: change passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and log out all devices. Then warn your contacts not to trust messages from the compromised account, especially requests for money, which are the most common follow-up scam.
File this complaint with the cybercrime cell, which has the technical staff to handle digital cases, and also register on the national portal where available. In India, that is cybercrime.gov.in; in Pakistan, the FIA Cybercrime Wing. Note the exact URLs, profile links, and usernames involved, because investigators use these to request data from the platforms.
A non-obvious tip: ask the investigating officer to send a data-preservation request to the platform quickly. Social media companies routinely delete server logs after about 90 days, and once those logs are gone, tracing the offender becomes nearly impossible. Speed here matters more than anywhere else.
Keep a written timeline of the incident with dates and times. Cyber investigations move through several hands, and a clear timeline saves weeks of repeated questioning. Follow up with the officer monthly and keep your complaint number safe.
