Fir Request Letter Format
An FIR is what turns your report into a real criminal case, and the way you request it affects how fast it moves. This free format gives you the precise, formal wording that stations expect, so your FIR is registered without arguments or repeat visits.

When and how to use this letter
An FIR can be registered for any cognizable offence, which includes theft, robbery, assault, fraud, and most serious crimes. You can file it at any police station, even one outside the area where the offence happened; the station must record it as a zero FIR and transfer it to the correct jurisdiction. Do not let anyone turn you away for being in the wrong station.
Registration is free, and you are legally entitled to a free copy of the FIR. Read it carefully before signing. Check that names, dates, and the description of the offence are recorded exactly as you stated them, because the FIR becomes the foundation of the entire case.
State only facts you know to be true. Do not exaggerate, guess at identities, or add details you are unsure about. False information in an FIR is itself punishable, and inaccuracies discovered later damage your credibility in court.
A non-obvious tip: if the station refuses to register your FIR, send your written complaint by registered post to the Senior Superintendent or Commissioner of Police. Senior officers are required to act on such complaints, and stations almost always register the FIR once the complaint arrives from above.
Keep the FIR number safe permanently. You will need it for insurance claims, court proceedings, passport or visa applications, and any future reference to the case. Note the investigating officer's name and number, and follow up regularly so the investigation keeps moving.
