When and how to use this letter
Visit your branch with this letter, your ID proof, and an original address proof document such as a utility bill, rental agreement, or government-issued ID showing the new address. The bank will verify the original and keep a photocopy. The update is usually processed within 2 to 3 working days.
Many banks also let you update your address through internet banking by uploading a scanned proof document, which saves a branch visit. If you use that route, make sure the scan is clear and matches the name on your account exactly — mismatched names are the most common reason for rejection.
Update your address with the bank before requesting any new cheque book or card, so dispatches go to the right place. If you have accounts at multiple branches of the same bank, confirm whether the change applies to your customer profile centrally or must be repeated per account. Keep a copy of the acknowledgment until your next statement arrives at the new address.
After the update, verify it by checking your profile in the banking app or on your next statement. If any dispatched item — a card or cheque book — was sent to the old address during the transition, contact the bank immediately to reissue it. Also update your address separately with the post office or set up mail forwarding for a few months so nothing important is lost.
