When and how to use this letter
Submit this request at the branch that disbursed your loan, after confirming your final payment has been credited — wait 3 to 5 working days after the last EMI. Carry your ID, loan account details, and receipts of the final payments. The NOC is usually issued within 7 to 15 working days.
If the loan was secured, collect every original document the bank held — property papers, vehicle registration documents, or share certificates — and get a written receipt for their return. For home loans, the bank must also execute the paperwork removing its lien from the property; follow up until this is done, because a lingering lien blocks any future sale.
After receiving the NOC, check your credit report within 30 to 60 days to confirm the loan shows as closed. If it still shows as active, raise a dispute with the credit bureau using your NOC as proof. Never skip this step — an unreported closure can drag down your credit score for years.
Store the NOC permanently with your property or loan papers, not in a drawer you will forget. Future buyers, lenders, and even tax authorities may ask for proof that the loan was closed. If you took the loan jointly, make sure both holders' names appear on the NOC. A single missing name can create problems when the property is sold or transferred years later.
