When and how to use this letter
Locker nomination is separate from account nomination — registering a nominee on your savings account does not cover your locker. Submit this request at the branch where the locker is held, with your ID proof and the nominee's details. The nominee's presence is not required, but their name must match their official ID exactly.
Most banks require their own locker nomination form in addition to a written request, so ask at the counter and complete both in one visit. If the locker is jointly held, all holders must sign the nomination. Registration is usually completed within a few working days.
After registration, ask for written confirmation and keep it with your locker agreement. Review the nomination whenever your family situation changes — marriage, divorce, or the nominee's death. Like account nomination, a locker nomination simplifies the claim process but does not override a will, so keep both documents aligned.
Tell the nominee that they are nominated and where the locker agreement and confirmation are kept — a nomination is useless if your family does not know it exists. If you later surrender the locker or change branches, the nomination must be re-registered for the new arrangement. Keep the locker rent paid on time, because banks can break open lockers with long-unpaid rent, and the contents then go through a complicated claim process.
