When and how to use this letter
If your card is lost or stolen, call the bank's helpline immediately to block it before writing this letter — blocking stops misuse, the letter only starts the replacement. Most banks also let you block and reissue cards through internet banking or the mobile app, which is faster than a branch visit.
A replacement card typically arrives within 7 to 10 working days at your registered address, with the PIN sent separately. Activate the new card at an ATM or through the app as soon as it arrives, and destroy the old card if it later turns up. Update any recurring payments or subscriptions tied to the old card number.
If the card expired rather than being lost, you usually do not need this letter at all — most banks auto-renew and dispatch replacement cards before expiry. Check with the branch whether your card is on auto-renewal before submitting a request, to avoid paying a duplicate issuance fee.
While waiting for the new card, you can usually still bank through the mobile app, internet banking, and branch withdrawals with your ID. If you depend on the card for daily spending, ask the branch whether an instant-issue card is available at the counter — many branches can print one on the spot for a small fee.
